Going Going, Back Back to Scotland, Scotland...
Karl Dusen dominated the Scotland Run today, March 30th, 2008 to earn a trip back to Scotland. Congratulations Karl!

The MTC had 7 guys run the NYRR 8K and PRs came to several of them. In the Championship race, Karl Dusen led the team with a 24:33.3 finish and was closely followed by Jeff “Del” Rios in a road PR of 24:36.5. Chris English, preparing for the mile in outdoor track, went out a tad too aggressively to PR in 25:19.7, though surely with a more conservative approach, he could have been under 25:00 (went through 2 miles in 9:36!).
In the NYRR 8K, Sean Swift led the MTC with a 25:41 effort and was followed closely by miler Bruce Hancock in 25:44, who equaled his road 8K PR. Joe Kelly, who had a long winter recovering from hamstring problems, started off with a 5:35 first mile before coming home in 26:45. That’s averaging 5:15 pace the last 4 miles. Not a bad race coming back from injury!
Unfortunately Top runner Brian Horneck was injured for the 8K, otherwise the MTC would most definitely had 3 guys in the 24:30s or faster, and Zach Starr and Dan Cappiello had other commitments and were not in town. Chris Malynowski ran a workout concentrated on helping him be a better 800 runner this spring.

Valentines Day marked the end of indoor track for most of the team as Chris English ran the mile at the Thursday Night at the Races. The team had a moderately successful indoor season off of no speed work, laying the foundation for what will prove to be a successful spring.

The MTC finished 19th at Club Cross Country Nationals in what was certainly the deepest Club Meet to date. Brian Horneck led the team followed closely by Del Rios, Chris English, Bruce Hancock and Karl Dusen. With a spread of just 1:00, the team ran a great race together and should be proud of their place. Click on the Image below to see video from Nationals

Karl Dusen finished in 87th place at the USA Olympic Team Marathon Trials yesterday. Though the race proved to be a challenging one, the experience gained by performing on such a big stage will be invaluable in the future. Now its time for a well deserved rest before a refocus on the track for 2008...

The MTC finished in 6th place at the BAA Mayor’s Cup on October 28th. Include Bruce Hancock and Karl Dusel in the race and MTC likely fishes 2nd or 3rd. Brian Horneck, Jeff Rios, Joe Kelly and Chris Malynowski all had extremely strong days while Chris English and Wayne Chen also performed very well for their first real cross race of the season.

August 18
The MTC finished 3rd at the NYC Club Champs behind The Westchester Track Club and the Running Company. It was the first time the MTC had their full and healthy team all year, and I don’t think a single athlete had a bad race. Just a phenomenal day and a great start to the cross country season.
